TOPIC: Melungeons and other tri-racial isolate groups

http://therevivalist.info/melungeon-mystery-solved/

The subject I have chosen for this semester long search project is that of Melungeons.  According to Melungeons.com, they are "a group of mixed ethnic ancestry, found primarily in northeastern Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, southeastern Kentucky."  Oxford Reference similarly describes them as "a people of mixed Black, White, and Amerindian descent inhabiting the southern Appalachian mountains in the eastern US."

I will be searching JSTOR as well as various social science, science/medical, bibliographic, humanities, legal, statistical/numeric and image databases for results on Melungeons.  If the database in question needs a wider query in order to be useful, then I plan to research other tri-racial isolate groups, mainly in the Southern United States such as:

North Carolina - Lumbee Indians
South Carolina - Brass Ankles

Louisiana - Red Bones

Ohio - Carmel Indians
Ohio/West VA - Guineas

Here's to a semester of successful searching!
